Hannie aims to create a future where smarter products can be used for a longer period. We achieve this by designing products that adapt to different stages of a child’s development, can be used in various ways and contexts, and are of high quality, enabling them to be passed down through generations.
When the product eventually needs to be recycled, it’s well thought out in this regard as well. The products are easy to disassemble and recycle by end user.
At Hannie, we take a holistic approach to sustainability, recognizing its essential role in being a responsible provider of baby products for our future generation, the little ones who will inherit our planet.
MATERIALS
We always choose the most suitable materials for each specific function of a product. This enhances durability and helps the products last longer. We ensure that we use commonly recyclable materials when the product reaches the end of its life. In cases where a product can be made with recycled materials, we, of course, choose to do so. When we design our products, we use as few different materials as possible. This makes it easier for the recycling companies to take care of the waste.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Our design is carefully crafted, with aesthetics thoughtfully considered to endure through multiple generations. Simplicity and timelessness are key. We create smart features and functions that allow the products to be used for an extended period as the child grows. The design also influences how the product is transported. We ensure that the product is as compact as possible for optimal transport efficiency. We design with disassembly in mind, making it easier to repair, recycle, or reuse components at the end of the product’s life, promoting sustainability and minimizing waste.
PACKAGING
We only use packaging materials that contain at least 90-99% recycled content. We also make a conscious effort to avoid unnecessary plastic packaging. For example, with the Portable High Chair, we designed a protective fabric tote bag that comes with the product and can be reused for multiple purposes. Our packaging is built for durability, allowing us to eliminate the need for extra thick outer cartons when shipping the product to our customers.
MANUFACTURING & SUPPLIERS
When we partner with a new supplier, we prioritize smaller companies with smaller factories. This approach allows Hannie, as a smaller business, to maintain greater control over regulations and influence the fulfillment of our requirements. We believe in building close, long-term relationships based on transparency. Additionally, we collaborate with third-party inspection companies to conduct regular checks. Together, these practices ensure that we uphold our Code of Conduct. Read more here.
TRANSPORTATION & FREIGHT
To reduce our CO2 footprint, we prioritize working with suppliers located as close as possible to our main supplier. This minimizes the environmental impact of transporting raw materials. For shipping large quantities of goods, we always choose container shipping by sea, which produces significantly less carbon emissions than air freight. On average, air freight pollutes 20-30 times more than sea freight.
Optimizing space usage during shipping is another key priority. A great example of this is our first product, the Portable High Chair. Compared to some of our competitors, we save about 25% of space, which has a significant positive impact on reducing our carbon footprint.
